About SMIM
The Swiss mid-cap index gathers the companies ranked immediately below the country's blue chips, and in some ways it is the more interesting list: laboratory instruments, dental implants, vacuum valves, chocolate processing, airport operation, speciality insurance. Several hold a commanding share of a niche narrow enough that most people outside it have never heard the name, and a number of them supply the pharmaceutical groups listed one tier up. Swiss practice is half-yearly reporting, so this hub shows the annual revenue and earnings series. Prices are in Swiss francs — a currency whose habitual strength is itself a headwind for the exporters on this list.
