About DAX
Germany's headline index is unusual in construction: it is calculated as a performance index, with dividends treated as reinvested, so its published level is not directly comparable with the price-only benchmarks used in most other countries. Its membership was widened after an accounting failure at one constituent forced a rethink of the entry rules. The companies are what an export economy would suggest — SAP in software, Siemens in industry, Allianz and Munich Re in insurance, the car makers, Bayer and BASF in chemicals, Infineon in semiconductors. Quarterly statements are required, so fundamentals appear per quarter with year-on-year growth. Trading is on Xetra, in euros.
